Are you ready for this long winter to finally end? Spring is just around the corner and it’s time to have some new floral decor! But also, we have a great need right now in our own community in Buffalo. There are 731 refugees in Western New York who have arrived in the last 90 days. Due to the aggressive budget cuts, money that was promised from the federal government for resettlement services has been cut off. Refugee resettlement agencies have had to lay off staff and cut vital programs needed to support this newly arrived group of refugees.

I’ve lived in Buffalo for 16 years and have been involved in various programs that assist newly arrived refugees. I worry that without the programs to help them get settled, our newly arrived neighbors will be lacking in not only basic needs such as medical care, food, housing, and English classes, but will be vulnerable to violence and scams, and this will affect their long-term ability to recover from the trauma they have faced and reduce their ability to acclimate to our culture.

The Refugee Partnership of Western New York is a collaborative project envisioned by the Buffalo agencies that resettle and support refugees: Catholic Charities of Buffalo, International Institute of Buffalo, Jericho Road Community Health Center, Jewish Family Services of WNY, and Journey’s End Refugee Services. Proceeds from this event will go to support this work.

Join me for an evening of hope, community, and solidarity as you learn how to create your own dried flower wreath and support the important work of welcoming our newly-arrived neighbors. I’ll have a variety of sizes and shapes of wreath bases available for you to make a custom wreath that is perfect for your space.

Price Transparency: minimum suggested contribution for this class is $60. The first $25 goes to cover the cost of the materials and the use of the farmhouse space, everything above that will be donated.

The Refugee Partnership Fundraiser has a timer that ends before the date of this class. I assume I will still be able to donate after the official end date, but if for some reason I cannot, all money raised will be donated to Jericho Road’s Refugee support programs.
